Gauteng Premier David Makhura says the annual Ijtima is an exercise of love between fellow Muslims.

Makhura attended the annual Ijtima at Mias Farm in Midrand on Friday.

The Ijtima which takes months of planning and preparation is taking place at Mias Farm in Midrand and Escourt in KZN from 19 April to 22 April.

Makhura says he was impressed with the brotherhood of Muslims at the Ijtima.

“The lesson I drew when I visited the Ijima, an emphasis that people must live simple lives. I looked at the tents, most of the time they are praying and then there are lectures that I was taken through, what the teachings are about, the life that those who practice Islam have to lead, the simple life. But also it’s a life about worrying about the next person, not always about yourself.”

Makhura says South Africa is a beautiful country where people of all races can practice their faith without fear or favour.
