Revoke of WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange’s Asylum Completely ‘Illegal’

April 11, 2019

Radio Islam International – 2019/04/11

A member of Julian Assange’s legal team says the revoking of his Ecuadorian asylum is completely illegal.

Seven years after he first entered Ecuador’s embassy in London seeking asylum, the WikiLeaks founder was arrested by British police and faces extradition to the United States.

Renata Avila, who is part of Assange’s legal team said that he was granted Ecuadorian citizenship, which makes the situation even more complex.

“It is completely illegal — and adding insult to injury, Julian was granted Ecuadorian nationality, so it is not only illegal before international law, it’s not constitutional.

Assange was dragged out of the building in the UK capital by officers and bundled into a police van after the South American country abruptly revoked his asylum earlier on Thursday.

The Australian national was initially arrested for breaching bail terms and was later found guilty before a London court.
