From Wednesday, the World Health Organisation in partnership with the Mozambique Health Department will be embarking on a major vaccination campaign.
They are aiming to vaccinate over nine hundred thousand people at risk of contracting cholera.
However, the cyclone-induced cholera outbreak in central Mozambique has killed two people and infected more than 1,400.
Health authorities say 376 new cholera cases had been reported on Tuesday, taking the total number of people infected to 1,428 since the first cases were reported last week.
The bulk of the cases have been registered in the central city of Beira, which has so far recorded 1,218 cases.
International Relations and Cooperation’s Minister Lindiwe Sisulu says South Africa will fully assist the people of Mozambique in trying to regain all that they lost.
“We here and we protected lives, if we were not here and the rest of the defence forces, lots more lives would’ve been lost.”
