Calculating the Cost of the National Health Insurance for South Africa

The aim of the NHI scheme is to establish a “single-payer” and “single-purchaser” fund, for the entire South African population.

As detailed by the Health Minister only some 10% of the South African population is currently able to afford access to private health care.

With most public facilities in need of upliftment and the health sector itself looking at changes to better service delivery, the burning issues are: “How will the exorbitant cost be footed and by whom?
