Palestinians Pray In Bab Al – Rahma Area Of Al – Aqsa For First Time 16 Years

February 25, 2019

Radio Islam International – 2019/02/25

For the first time since 2003, Palestinian worshippers entered the Bab al-Rahma (Gate of Mercy) area of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Hundreds of worshippers, led by the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Sheikh Mohammad Hussein broke the 16-year Israeli ban on Muslim worship in the area.

According to official Palestinian news agency Wafa, the Palestinians chanted national slogans and raised the flag of Palestine, celebrating the reopening of the area in Jerusalem’s Old City.

Listen to the Palestine Report by Radio Islam’s Hafez Ebrahim Moosa:

Israeli police have briefly arrested the head of the Islamic council that oversees Muslim holy sites in Jerusalem, along with his deputy, while two al-Aqsa mosque guards were detained.

Abdel-Azeem Salhab, president of the Jordan-backed Waqf council, was arrested at his home early on Sunday morning.
