The Gauteng Education Department has confirmed that a Grade 12 learner has collapsed and died at Liverpool High School in Actonville, Benoni on the East Rand.
It’s believe the learner collapsed during physical training on Thursday.
The department says Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi visited the school and conveyed his condolences to the family.
Speaking to Radio Islam, the departments Steve Mabona says the cause of the death is being investigated.
“We are not sure what transpired but the police will then be investigating and they will guide us on the way forward.”
Mabona says the department’s psychosocial unit team will be dispatched to the school to provide counselling to learners.
