The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has showcased its vast experience in the mining sector at the Mining Indaba in Cape Town.

The Mining Indaba which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year brings together hundreds of key speakers and thousands of investors and attendees, as one of the most important mining investment conferences in the world and the largest mining event in Africa.

This year’s indaba saw a number of activities and events, including a sustainable development day, high level governmental meetings including a Saudi Arabian Night to promote the Kingdom’s cultural heritage.

The Saudi delegation was Khalid bin Saleh Al Mudaifer, Saudi Arabia’s Vice Minister for Mining Affairs with the Ambassador to South Africa Gharm Bin Saeed Al-Malhan also attending the indaba.

Al Mudaifer says the Saudi mining sector has recently undergone a major transformation following the adoption of a new mining code and strategy, which comes in line with the Saudi Vision 2030.

“In this conference, we are showcasing the Kingdom’s promising experience of transforming its mining sector, as the Kingdom has invested over USD 40 billion in fully integrated mining value chains in partnership with the public and private sectors and built on its rich mineral resources.”

Al Mudaifer says as part of its efforts to develop its mining sector, Saudi Arabia has launched the beta version of the National Geological Database, to enable online access to all the national records, and allocated SAR 3 billion by 2020 to expedite exploration activities and partner with junior exploration companies.
