The Gauteng Education Department says the SGB of Eldorado Park School including community members need to reconsider their stance on seven teachers who were barred from the school amid allegations of racism.
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) Gauteng Central Region had called for a shutdown of the School in solidarity with the 7 educators.
The strike was called off following an intervention from the SADTU for its members not to participate in the action.
The education department Steve Mabona says it’s concerned that the academic curriculum was affected.
“Our principle position is that the SGB need to reconsider their stance so that the seven teachers are allowed back at school and we’ll then start the reintegration process so that it assists the process of teaching and learning at the school.”
He says the South African Human Rights Commission is investigating the racism allegations.
“The South African Human Rights Commission was tasked to enquire on all racism allegations which were metered out in the entire Eldorado schooling environment.”
Mabona says all stakeholders in the education sector are encouraged to always engage on all issues and resolve challenges amicably.
