The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa has condemned the killing of an Ethiopian national at a mosque in Mayfair.
The 40-year-old was accosted by two men in the parking lot on Tuesday and shot dead.
A bystander was also wounded in the attack.
Jamiat SA Secretary General Moulana Ebrahim Bham says the killing at a place of worship highlights the gravity of criminal elements and level of violence that simmers within communities and now threatens to spillover into sacred spaces.
“The mosque is a sacred sanctuary for all and for a murder to happen and be committed in the precincts of a mosque is all the more serious. We call on all stakeholders in the community to gather together to out an end to crime”
Ml Bham has urged the community to stop speculation until police have conducted their investigations.
