Gauteng MEC for Road and Transport Ismail Vadi says the African National Congress (ANC) has a lot of work to do in Gauteng and Lenasia if it’s to win in the upcoming elections.

Vadi was speaking at a gathering at the Trade Route Mall in Lenasia.

He says the ANC paid a heavy price when it lost the Tshwane and Johannesburg metros.

Vadi says the party lost Lenasia because of the problems and reputational issues facing the party.

“The ANC in Lenasia must get its house in order, it has to. I don’t know if the branch committee members are here tonight because when I came I didn’t see anybody from the branch. It’s not acceptable. You can’t have an ANC Johannesburg region meeting in this community and the branch leadership is not present.”

Vadi says non-active ANC Lenasia branch members also have to question themselves about local representation.

“We can’t sit on the side-lines and say ‘well what is the ANC doing.’ You’re an ANC member, you are an ANC supporter what are you doing? “We can’t go to the community if there’s a semblance of division in our own ranks. We can’t go.”

Vadi says the local branch of the ANC has an obligation to rebuild the party in the Lenasia community.
