Political analyst Molifi Tshabalala says The High Court’s decision ordering the State Attorney’s office to recover funds spent on Jacob Zuma’s legal fees is a massive blow for the former president.
Deputy Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba handed down the unanimous ruling in Pretoria today to recover all the funds spent on Zuma’s legal fees over the past 13 years.
The legal fees which relate to both civil litigation and criminal prosecutions have been estimated at R 30 million.
Tshabalala says it’s going to be difficult for Zuma to pay back the money.
“Knowing the president he might even actually appeal this court ruling which will add actually on his financial woes. So it’s going to be difficult for him actually to carry on with his legal battle as you said his benefactors being in Dubai.”
Tshabalala says the ruling is an important lesson for civil servants to respect state resources.
