Eight of the eleven suspects arrested in connection with the bomb scares in KwaZulu-Natal and the Verulam Mosque attack have been released on bail, while the remaining three were released on a warning.
The state’s evidence linked members of the alleged syndicate to various attacks in the province earlier this year.
The accused appeared before the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Magistrate Irifhaan Khalil says the state’s case at the moment is not only weak, but is also likely to fail.
“Such evidence at face value is not what it appears with the overall objective of showing on a balance of probability.”
The case has been postponed to 22 February next year for further investigations.
