Two men have been arrested for the murders of seven people in Vlakfontein, south of Johannesburg.
Police say officers received information that led to them Mpumalanga near the Lebombo border post where A 27-year old male suspect was arrested while A 61-year-old second suspect was handcuffed in Dobsonville.
The 27-year old suspect will face additional charges of rape.
The bodies of four children and three women all from the same family were discovered buried under a pile of sand a week ago at their home.
In a statement, acting Provincial Commissioner of police in Gauteng Major General Max Masha says the arrests will send a clear message to criminals.
“These arrests will go a long way in proving to those who continue to undermine the authority of the State, that police mean business when we say that we will prioritise cases against women and children.”
The pair will appear at the Lenasia Magistrates Court on Monday
