As part of the “Bring Down Child Trafficking” campaign, Radio Islam visited Park Primary School in Lenasia to educate learners about the scourge of child trafficking in the country.
The initiative was launched by Ubungcweti Management and Services together with police, community police forums, political parties and civil society.
It aims to visit a number of schools to educate learners about child trafficking and how to protect themselves against potential child traffickers.
“We will not become victims of child trafficking”
These are the words sentiments of a group learners at Park Primary School in Lenasia that don’t want to become another victim of child trafficking.
NGO Stop Trafficking last month revealed that South Africa is a lucrative hunting ground for child traffickers and child kidnapping.
Figures released by the South African police service missing person’s bureau for 2018 shows that a child goes missing every five hours in South Africa, and that 1.2 million children are trafficked every year in the country.
This learner told Radio Islam that children need to be proactive when it comes to human trafficking
“Child trafficking is bad because the young generation should be the future and children should be aware of their surroundings.”
Stop Trafficking says open lines of communication is vital for a child’s safety.
