Following the leak of Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba’s sex tape, esteemed Islamic scholar and presenter at Radio Islam International Moulana Sulaimaan Ravat has questioned the need for preserving the bedroom activities of husband and wife.
Ml Ravat provided an Islamic perspective on the permissibility of taking photos or videos of a sexual nature in Islam.
Ml Ravat says while people may have inclinations to indulge in recording their bedroom activities, there is a risk of the content being leaked or even posted on social media by mistake.
“You take one of these videos and imagine afterwards your kids, they play with your phone, imagine if they come across that content. Sometimes phones get stolen. Sometimes husband and wife can meet up in an accident together and they pass away. Now other members of the family have access to that phone and not everyone is mature enough to say I’m just going to delete, I’m not going to look.”
Ml Ravat says it’s also very important for parents to educate their children about sending revealing messages to their friends and others that maybe involved with.
