Dirco Concerned Over Missing Saudi Journalist Jamal Khashoggi

October 17, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 17-10-2018

The International Relations Department (Dirco) has expressed concern over the disappearance of Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Khashoggi entered Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Istanbul on October 2 to obtain a document certifying he divorced his ex-wife and hasn’t been seen since.

Saudi Arabia has rejected allegations the journalist was murdered inside its mission saying he had left the consulate safely.

International Relations Ndivhuwo Mabaya says government welcomes the ongoing diplomatic interaction between Turkey and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the investigation which seeks to get to the bottom of the matter.

“Our diplomats are engaging on this matter. We believe that the engagement between Turkey and Saudi Arabia will bring finality to this matter. We are monitoring the situation, we are also monitoring all the investigations that are taking place and we will continue to communicate with South Africans as the matter unfolds.”
