Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 2018/09/19
A Maldivian activist who requested to remain anonymous in fear of intimidation told Radio Islam that there are several documents which have been released implicating current Maldives president Abdulla Yameen in massive corruption
It has been reported that President Yameen formed part of a massive scheme to lease out dozens of islands and lagoons to tourism developers without public tender, according to an investigation.
The activist says evidence in the report from the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) states islands were leased at discounted prices and the beneficiaries of the scheme included local tycoons and major investors from around the world.
“The report shows very, very weird dealing showing under goings and under deals.”

According to reports, the investigation is based on leaks and documents, including the contents of three iPhones belonging to former vice president Ahmed Adeeb, internal government documents and banking records.
The activist added that the people of Maldives know that corruption has taken place, as there is direct evidence linking the president to the alleged corrupt deals.
“The current president had 1 million US Dollars deposited in to his private account, he has stated on live TV that he does not check whether the money he receives is halaal or haraam, so I think the tone has been set way before the report from OCC.”
The report was published just days before an election scheduled for September 23 and is the second exposé implicating President Yameen.
