SANHA Suspends Steers King Shaka Airport Halaal Certification

September 06, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 06-09-2018

The South African National Halaal Authority (SANHA) has urged travellers to refrain from dining at the Steers restaurant in King Shaka International Airport due to irregularities.

Sanha suspended the Halaal certification of the non-Muslim owned Steers restaurant at the airport on Wednesday.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Sanha says operations at the Steers King Shaka Airport has been temporarily suspended with immediate effect by the halaal body due to the delivery of pork products.

Sanha’s Ebrahim Lockat said: “The offensive products were spontaneously removed and appropriate action has been taken to address this serious breach.”

Lockat says there should be no comprise when it comes to halaal.

“This particular store which we have certified because of the need of the Muslim traveller, it is a non-Muslim operator, but he is subject to very stringent checks. That was one of the reasons the breach itself got picked up. But I can assure the public that no offence or haraam products were actually cooked on the premises and it went out.”

Sanha says the community will be updated once the matter is adequately dealt with in terms of their conformance and disciplinary procedures.
