A Lenasia man and his family have been left traumatized after their car was struck by a rock on the night of Eid.
It’s understood Ebrahim Saloojee was travelling on the R558 from Azaadville to Lenasia on Wednesday when the incident happened
According to Saloojee, there was a mob of at least 30 people who allegedly blocked the road and were throwing rocks at passing motorists.
“I opened the window slightly so he said give me ten Rand and I’ll let you through, so I realised this guy’s wasn’t going to let me through and maybe wanted me to open my door and come out of the car. Just then I heard the back window being shattered.”
Saloojee says he drove into the township and through the mob back to Azaadville.
“My wife was hysterical. The one rock came through her side of the window, passed her head and hit me on my arm. The arm is bruised and painful, but rather that then my wife being hit on the head. It was definitely Allah’s Hand that protected us. No doubt about it.”
Saloojee has urged other motorists to be wary of the rock throwers on the R 558 en-route to Azaadville, especially when travelling at night.
