For 1.8 billion Muslims around the world, the annual Hajj is a spiritual pinnacle.

Each year, up to three million pilgrims descend on the beloved cities of Makkah and Madinah, the epicenter of the Muslim world, to seek redemption, to forgive and to be forgiven.

Radio Islam International’s Hajj Correspondent Moulana Abdur Rahman Laily says the number of female pilgrims performing Hajj increases annually.

“The Hujjaaj who are female have been increasing and increasing, we knew that our sisters, our mothers, and our daughters found it extremely challenging in order to be able to get in to one of the two ladies facilities on the two rear corners of Masjidun Nabawi (SAW).”

Ml Laily says the Hajj committee has noted the increase of female pilgrims and have planned accordingly.

“This year, they’ve laid additional carpets on the outside, but the number of suffoof or rows for females observing salaah in Masjidun Nabawi (SAW) has definitely increased from previous years.”

Ml Laily adds that females fill up two thirds of Masjidun Nabawi (SAW) lengthwise.

“You would be shocked to know that the ladies saffs went further to the front, beyond where the ladies section actually started.”

At least 120 women are performing guide duties for Hajj pilgrims this year.

Ml Laily says expansions at Masjidun Nabawi (SAW) and other sacred sites are inevitable as the number of pilgrims continues to grow annually.
