SA Muslim Community Mourns Passing of Qari Qaasim Shehri (RA)

August 03, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 03-08-2018

The South African Muslim community has been left heartbroken after the passing of yet another esteemed Islamic scholar.

Qari Qaasim Shehri who was a teacher at the Darul Uloom Zakarriya passed away in his sleep in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The 66-year-old Qari Shehri was a phenomenal teacher in the memorization of the Qur’an with thousands of students across the world qualifying as Hufaz under his tutorship.

In his early years, Qari Shehri worked as a tailor at the Daffa factory in Saudi Arabia.

Qari Shehri hailed from same village as the legendary Qari Abdul Hamid of Kerk Street.

Radio Islam’s Hafez Shaakir Bhayat says Qari Shehri always gave each of his student’s personal attention.

“It would be an understatement to say perhaps from fifty/sixty countries of world, there are students today who are maybe Imam’s of masjids leading congregations who had studied under our great ustad, our noteworthy ustad Qari Qaasim Shehri (RA).”

May Allah fill his qabar with noor and grant him the highest stages of Jannatul Firdous.
