Islamic Helpline Launches Utbah Wellness Centre in Lenasia

July 27, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 27-07-2018

The Islamic Helpline says there is desperate need for drug rehab centres in Lenasia to combat the high number of drug related cases especially among young girls and women.

The organisation launched the new Ubtah Wellness Centre in Lenasia today which caters specifically for girls and women drug addicts.

The outpatient centre located at 187 Hydrangea Street in Lenasia was donated to the Help Line by the Jamiatul Ulama Lenasia branch.

Facilitator Ahmed Hassim says, while Indian drug addicts are shunned by their families and communities, people must realise that drug addiction is real problem affecting all societies.

He says the number of female drug addicts is shocking.

“At the moment the scourge of drugs, is not only that males are involved in it. It’s females. It’s sad to say that the girls are overtaking the males in the scourge of drugs.”

He says the wellness center is open to all races and may in time also treat male drug addicts.

The Utba Wellness Centre has been dedicated in memory of late Shabir Manjoo also known as Uncle Sha who tirelessly assisted the community towards combatting drug abuse.
