Police Detain Lenasia South Residents After Protest

June 22, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 22-06-2018

Police have detained five people and taken two more for questioning following protests at the Lenasia South police station.

Residents protested outside the local police station on Thursday night after community patroller Emran Mohammad and two shoppers were shot dead during a robbery at a Shoprite.

Police say as officers were addressing residents, some of them threw tables and started banging the entrance of the police station

Spokesperson Brenda Muridili says they can’t rule out the possibility of more people being detained.

“There are five people who are detained currently. They will most probably be facing charges of malicious damage to property, theft and public violence. We have two more in custody that are being questioned at the moment.”
