Lenasia South Residents Protest at Police Station Over High Crime

June 22, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 22-06-2018

Lenasia South residents say they are angry about the escalation of crime in the area and are demanding police commissioner Bheki Cele to address their concerns.

Residents protested outside the Lenasia South police station last night after community patroller Emran Mohammad was shot during an armed robbery and later died in hospital.

Two other people were also killed in the robbery on Tuesday after criminals held up shoppers at the Shoprite along the Golden Highway.

Residents are accusing the police station of being incompetent and not doing enough to curb crime in Lenasia South

This resident says they need more visible policing in the area due to the high crime rate.

“We want justice. They can’t do their jobs. They take a day to open a docket, a charge on a murder case. That uniform is dishonour, no more honour.”

Residents will be marching again to the Lenasia South police station tonight to voice their concerns.
