SA Withdraws Ambassador to Israel After Deadly Gaza Attack

May 14, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 14-05-2018

The South African government has withdrawn its Ambassador following the killing of Palestinian protestors at the Gaza border.

In a statement on Monday the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) says the act of aggression resulted in more than  Palestinian deaths, injuries and destruction to property.

Dirco condemned in the strongest terms possible the latest act of violent aggression carried out by Israeli armed forces.

“Given the indiscriminate and grave manner of the latest Israeli attacks, the South African government has taken a decision to recall Ambassador Sisa Ngombane with immediate effect and until further notice.”

Dirco also says Israel must end the violence against the Palestinians.

“As we have stated on previous occasions, South Africa reiterates its view that the Israeli Defence Force must withdraw from the Gaza Strip and bring to an end the violent and destructive incursions into Palestinian territories.”

Dirco says the violence in the Gaza Strip will stand in the way of rebuilding Palestinian institutions and infrastructure.

Earlier today, the US officially opened its embassy to Israel in Jerusalem,

Monday marked the deadliest day of violence in Gaza since the 2014 cross border war.
