An Ethiopian historian says the world could learn lessons in dealing with the ongoing refugee crisis through examples of compassion shown by kings of his region to the Sahabah.
Adem Kamil Faris, who has authored several books on Islamic history, has spoken about how the East African state was the first country to welcome the suppressed companions of Prophet Mohammed (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) with open arms.
Faris told the Anadolu Agency the Prophet had personally directed his companions fleeing Makkah in fear of their lives to go to Al-Habash where there was a king who did not suppress anyone.
“The Negashi are a model for current leaders in showing compassion to refugees.”
Negasi Armah, the king of Ethiopia from 614-631 AD, hosted the companions of the Prophet.
