[LISTEN] Elderly Muslim Couple Brutally Beaten in Road Rage Incident

May 03, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 03-05-2018

An elderly Muslim couple and their four grandchildren have been left traumatised after they were brutally beaten during a road rage incident.

It’s understood the Parak family were travelling on the R103 from their home in Colenso to Durban on Friday for the long weekend when the incident happened.

According to a family spokesperson,  Mr Parak who is about 77 years old tried to overtake a truck when the driver of a BMW appeared behind his Toyota Hilux double-cab bakkie and flashed his headlights.

Family spokesperson Imraan Mohamed says Mr Parak was halfway past the truck and could not slow down.

“As he overtook the truck the BMW tried to pin him to a corner and tried to drive him off the road.”

Mohamed says the BMW driver flagged the Paraks vehicle down using hand signals and fearing something was wrong, Mr. Parak pulled over whereafter his was brutally beaten by the suspect.

He says everyone was screaming with one grandchild also suffering an asthma attack while at the same time Mrs Parak started reciting duas for Allah to protect her husband.

“He kept on beating him on his heart and the punches were quite hard and forceful. A lot on injury on the chest and face of Mr. Parak. Then Mrs. Parak got out of the vehicle and she tried to stop this man and he pinned her down to the bonnet and he grabbed at her throat and started to get violent with her.”

Mohamed says the culprit who is a prominent person in Ladysmith was identified by the children and brought by the police to apologise to the Paraks.

The family have tried to open a case at the Colenso Police station, but were allegedly told by officers that the incident could only be registered as a common assault case and not a case of grievous bodily harm.

Mohamed says Mr and Mrs Parak including the grandchildren aged 5, 10, 12 and 13 are receiving trauma counselling.
