Mashaba to Tackle Various Issues in State of the City Address

April 23, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 23-04-2018

The Speaker of the Council for the City of Johannesburg has told Radio Islam that Mayor Herman Mashaba will address key service delivery issues including housing when he delivers his state of the city address.

Mashaba has been briefing residents on the current state of the City and future developments.

The City has been holding meetings from the fifth of April and will continue to do so until May the 8th throughout the City’s seven regions to encourage public participation in the Integrated Development Plan.

Mashaba is expected to deliver his state of the city address next Wednesday.

Speaker Vasco da Gama says Mashaba will address a number of issues raised by residents.

“All the issues raised in the previous IDP’s will then be highlighted, whether somebody has asked for a park or a tarred road. And obviously we’ve tried to concentrate about 60% of the budget into areas that have previously not benefitted.”

In the past few months there have been a number of service delivery protests over the lack of housing, electricity and water, notably at the informal settlements in and around Lenasia and Lenasia South.
