Security has been beefed for Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema after the party were alerted of plans to assassinate the firebrand politician.
The EFF believes the threats are real saying individuals in the North West province “have approached drug dealers and assassins in different provinces” to murder Malema.
The red berets insinuate the threats may stem from the party’s political growth in the North West province.
Speaking to Radio Islam, EFF spokesperson Tebogo Mokwele says, the person who was hired to assassinate Malema changed his mind.
“The actual person who was actually hired by those hooligans and the ANC political party leaders in the North West province have actually confirmed to the Commander in Chief that he refused to take the money that was promised to him if ever he can assassinate the president.”
Mokwele says the party has not yet laid charges with police but has written to the Minister of Police Bheki Cele informing him of the threats and asking him to take action.
