India Bombing Masjid Accused Cleared

April 17, 2018

Thahir Asmal, Radio Islam News – 17-04-2018

An Indian court has acquitted all 10 defendants accused in the 2007 bombing of a masjid in India.

The bomb blast at the Mecca Musjid in Hyderabad during Jum’ah salaah left nine people dead and injured 58 others was allegedly carried out by a group of right-wing Hindu group.

The court ruled that the country’s federal investigation authority, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), failed to prove the charges against the accused.

After an initial investigation by local police, the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which eventually filed a charge sheet in 2011, after which the NIA took over the case.

A total of 226 witnesses were questioned by the NIA, with 10 people finally charged. All the accused were related to a radical Hindu group, Abhinav Bharat.
