Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 05-04-2018

The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa says late struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was a heroic woman who dedicated her lifetime to fight the bane of Apartheid and social injustice.

The organisation has expressed its profound sense of sympathty and extended condolences to the Madikizela and Mandela families on the loss of the struggle icon.

Madikizela-Mandela died at the Milpark hospital in Joburg on Monday at the age of 81 – she was surrounded by friends and family.

Loved ones, neighbours, politicians and dignitaries have shared memories and paid tribute to the woman known as the mother of the nation.

The Jamiat’s Moulana Ebrahim Bham says as Madikizela-Mandela tirelessly fought for the release of her late ex-husband Nelson Mandela, she became a prominent face of the struggle for liberation, recognised in South Africa and abroad.

Ml Bham says Madikzela-Mandela embodied the fight for dignity and equality for all.

“As we reflect on the contributions of such an extraordinary individual in the collective struggle for freedom, it should also be that moment when we take stock of what we have so far reclaimed of our humanity as a nation, so that such sacrifices as late Mama Winnie’s should never be in vain.”

Madikizela-Mandela will be laid to rest on Saturday 14 April.
