Lenasia Orphanage Files Urgent Court Application for Return of Seized Assets

March 23, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 22-03-2018

The legal counsel for an orphanage in Lenasia has told Radio Islam the Sheriff of the court has failed to return the seized assets of the organisation and he will be now be taking action.

On Tuesday the Sheriff allegedly unlawfully attached a number of essential items worth an estimated R 109,000 from the Global Relief Welfare Services after a security guard employed by the orphanage lodged a complaint with the labour court.

It’s understood the security guard was replaced with another official after he failed to return to work following his leave in December last year.

Advocate Moosa Vardalia says they are hoping to get back the orphanages assets as soon as possible.

“The Sheriff didn’t respond yesterday, so what I have done is, we’ve prepared an urgent application to the high court in Johannesburg and I’ve already been in contact with the registrar of the judge. What will happen is once she shows the matter to the judge, he will come back to me and give me an opportunity to hear and what that effect will have is Insha’Allah we can get the documents back.”
