Criminals Now Using Petrol Bombs to Attack Motorists on N12 Highway

March 20, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 20-03-2018

Johnnesburg Metro Police (JMPD) are urging motorists using the N12 freeway near Lenasia to be vigilant after it emerged that criminals are now using a different modus operandi to attack drivers.

Criminals use the stretch of highway in an attempt to hijack motorists. Several motorists have lost their lives in accidents in recent months as a result of the actions of the perpetrators.

It’s being reported that a petrol bomb instead of rocks was thrown early from the overhead Samfur/Nancefield bridge early Tuesday morning on a passing motor vehicle travelling below.

It’s understood the vehicle was not hit by the projectile.

The incident was apparently witnessed by a member of SAPS who stopped to investigate where they discovered three more petrol bombs.

The suspects fled the scene.

The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar says motorists must take precaution when travelling on the N12.

“Motorists are advised to be extra cautious on the N12 between Lenasia and Godlen Highway as a petrol bomb was thrown at a car last night and three more bombs were found on the foot bridge. Motorists should be extra cautious and if they see any suspicious behaviour they should call the police.”

Minnaar says JMPD officers will monitor the area closely.
