SA Government Can Extradite The Gupta Brothers

March 08, 2018

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 2018/03/08

Indian Financial Researcher Hemindra Hazari told Radio Islam that if the Gupta brothers are found to have committed crimes as South African citizens, the government of South Africa will be able to ask the Indian government for their extradition.

Hazari says the controversial Gupta family have been featuring in Indian mainstream media ever since the removal of Former President Jacob Zuma due to their ‘relationship’ with him.

This comes after reports emerged that Indian authorities raided the Guptas ancestral home in Saharanpur, while simultaneous raids also took place at the Gupta offices and homes in New Delhi and Dehradun.

Hazari adds that no one knows what the motivation behind the raids are.

“It has been widely reported in the Indian media that an income tax official was quoted as saying that the concern now is that the money from South Africa could have been brought in through money laundering.”

Police reportedly seized several documents, computers and hard drives.

However, Hazari says that there is no allegations against the Guptas in India that he knows of.

“It must be remembered that they left their home town to South Africa many years ago. I really don’t think that have any business interests in India.”

Hazari indicates that there is no confirmation on whether the Gupta’s are in India.
