Cooperative Governance Minister Des van Rooyen has told Parliament’s Water and Sanitation Committee there’s no basis for the term Day Zero saying its open to a variety of interpretations.
On Monday, the City of Cape Town announced that Day Zero has been pushed back to 11 May from last week’s forecast of 16 April.
According to EWN, Van Rooyen reportedly said the term Day Zero, which is used to describe the day the City runs out of water, even caused confusion at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Van Rooyen says Cape Town has enough water and he doesn’t believe that the taps will run dry.
“I think that we have more than enough water in Cape Town for us to be that worried about the taps running dry and that why are encourage our people to ensure that lets use it sparingly and responsibly.”
He says government is working with all role players to tap into the water supply across the country, not only in Cape Town.
