The Democratic Alliance ( DA) says while it is satisfied with the terms of reference for the commission of inquiry into state capture, they hope Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo will expedite the findings of the inquiry and make it public.
The Justice Department released the commissions’s terms of reference on Thursday, two weeks after President Jacob Zuma appointed deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo to chair the commission.
The inquiry will put the spotlight on whether Zuma, government ministers or staff from state owned entities were involved in awarding unlawful tenders to the Gupta family and their associates.
The DA’s Glynnis Breytenbach says Zondo is an experienced jurist and will make a finding that is supported by facts and in the public interest.
“We urge Deputy Chief Justice Zondo to release the interim report as he finishes a matter that is an encapsulated entity from such evidence, send it off to the relevant investigative authority so they can investigate and prosecute. In that way, it can deal with the issue much more efficiently and South African will start seeing a bit of bang for their buck.”
