Volatile Service Delivery Protests Flare-Up Again in Lenasia

January 24, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 24-01-2018

Protests on the K43 by residents of Thembelihle informal settlement have flared up once again with cars being stoned and roads being barricaded with rocks and debris.

It’s understood the residents are protesting over service delivery issues including the lack of housing in the area.

The protests erupted on Monday.

The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar says officers are on the scene monitoring the situation, but urged motorists using the K43 to seek alternate routes.

“The K43 has just been blocked off again to traffic at the Thembelihle area because of the violent protests. Motorists can use Nirvana Drive and the Golden Highway as alternate routes.”

Earlier, the Al Aqsa School in Extension 10 and the Lenasia Muslim School dismissed pupils early due the ongoing volatile protest action at Thembelihle.
