City of Joburg Reiterates Water Restriction Still in Place

January 23, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 23-01-2018

The City of Johannesburg has urged residents to reduce water consumption emphasising that level 1 water restrictions which have been in effect since March 2017 are still in place.

It says water usage has increased at an alarming rate and this is of serious concern given the recent heat wave Gauteng has been experiencing since the beginning of 2018.

With Level 1 restrictions, watering of gardens is not allowed between 6am and 6pm in summer months, while washing paved areas and driveways using hose pipes are also prohibited.

MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services in the City of Johannesburg Nico de Jager says residents must be water conscious and use the precious resource sparingly.

“Because of the high demand on water, we are going to keep level one restrictions in place. It doesn’t really matter that we have a dam that is full of water, it’s we haven’t got an increase pumping capacity from Rand Water, that is the problem for us.”
