ANC Youth League (ANCYL) President Collin Maine says while they are prepared to be led by any ANC leader, their preference remains Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
Maine spoke to Radio Islam on Sunday at the 54th ANC Conference at Nasrec in Johannesburg.
On Saturday President Jacob Zuma delivered his last address as president of the ANC.
Zuma is expected to be succeeded by either Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa or Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma for the top position of the party.
Maine says if Ramaphosa emerges as president of the ANC, the Youth League will have no choice but to support him.
“The youth league is prepared to be led by any leader who will emerge out of this congress which the ANC branches have elected. But as we said if Comrade Cyril is elected by the congress, we have no other choice but to support the outcomes of congress.”
Maine says President Jacob Zuma’s final address was also spot on when he lambasted alliance partners The South African Communist Party (SACP) and Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) for marching against him.
“Tendencies we don’t know off in the organization creeped on, where our alliance partners can march with people like Save South Africa. You see them being friends with big corporates which is something we never expected out of the comrades. The president was right when he said we need to build a stronger alliance.”
Meanwhile as preparations get underway for the second day of the crucial gathering, there are more expected delays to the programme.
