Zuma Tells Delegates at ANC Conference He Holds No Grudges

December 16, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 16-12-2017

Outgoing African National Congress (ANC) president Jacob Zuma says he holds no grudges against anyone within the party that called for him to step down.

Zuma delivered his political address at the ANC’s 54th elective conference in Nasrec on Saturday evening.

This was Zuma’s last address as party president.

Zuma says while there are those who had disagreed with him while he was in leadership he had no issues with them.

“I’m sure that there have been times where we did not agree. There may be times when I said things that you did not like. I bare no grudge. You are my Comrades, you were expressing a view. Many of you would be my leaders, know that I will work with you. I prefer those who express their views than those who don’t.”

But Zuma was particularly scathing to the alliance partners, the South African Communist Party (SACP) and the Congress of South Africa Trade Unions (COSATU), which both publicly called for him to resign earlier this year.

“In an unprecedented move, we saw in the past few months our alliance partners marching side by side with right-wing forces who are historical opponents of our democratic revolution, calling on the president of the ANC to step down.”

Zuma also pledged continued support for Palestine saying the ANC recognizes the struggle of the Palestinians as they forge ahead for statehood and the right to self-determination.
