Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba has encouraged the incoming leadership of the African National Congress (ANC) to unite the party.
Gigaba was speaking during the Progressive Business Forum (PBF) breakfast on the first day of the 54th national conference at Nasrec in Soweto on Saturday.
The hotly contested conference will see the party electing new national office bearers, including a new president and other top five officials.
Gigaba says the incoming leadership must not be daunted by the issues facing the country.
“Our people are hungry for change, but our people are also resilient and dynamic and we welcome democracy. All eyes are on the ANC. The country is looking to us for leadership. We cannot disappoint them.”
Gigaba says the new leadership must also get to work immediately to take the country forward.
“I would like to encourage the incoming leadership to be decisive in implementing the resolutions adopted by the conference.”
Gigaba says the change in leadership provides grandiose opportunities for continuity and change to build the South Africa that people want and works for all citizens.
