A Durban man is furious after he and his family drove from KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng for Umrah Visa biometrics only to be allegedly told by VFS Tasheel officials that the system was off line and that he should wait.
The man who spoke to Radio Islam on the condition of anonymity says he applied for the biometrics online on Thursday and arrived in Johannesburg the same day for his appointment with the Visa services company on Friday.
He says he has been through the process before and it’s frustrating.
“They took my stuff in to check it up, they asked for the passport and appointment letter and they told us to sit down. Fifteen minutes later, they tell us the systems are offline. I’ve been through this process before with the company, it seem like we’re just going to be waiting maybe the whole day, maybe half a day. No one seems to know what’s happening.”
The man says they were advised by officials to provide their contact numbers so they could be informed when the system is back up and running.
VFS Tasheel could not be reached for comment.
Saudi Arabian embassies in several countries have started taking biometrics of Umrah visa applicants following a new measure that came into effect from the beginning of the new Hijra year.
