Islam is Not an Indian Religion

December 07, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 07-12-2017

Renowned Islamic scholar and Secretary General of the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa Ml Ebrahim Bham says the perception amongst Muslim communities that Islam is an Indian religion is incorrect.

Ml Bham was speaking to Radio Islam on Thursday about his recent trip to Abuja in Nigeria where he was a speaker at the Peace & Unity Convention.

He emphasised that while Islam is a global religion, it is associated with North Africa because of the Arab belt and that most of the countries in that part of the continent have a far greater majority of Muslims.

“This is one of our weakness that we have not been able to show the local indigenous population that Islam is not an Indian religion. It is a religion which holds sway in much of Africa.”

Citing Lagos Airport in Nigeria as an example, Ml Bham says the visibility of Islam is so great that the Musallah is located in the main section of the facility.

Ml Bham says people should broaden their horizons and vision to fully understand that Islam is extends beyond the confinement of one ethnic group.
