JMS Teacher Gunned Down in Attempted Hijacking

Police have launched a manhunt for three suspects after a 36-year-old prominent Islamic scholar was gunned down in attempted hijacking in Mayfair.

It’s understood Ml Mohammad Patel, a Johannesburg Muslims School teacher (JMS) was leaving his home for Fajr salaah early this morning when he was accosted by the armed suspects.

The police’s Lungelo Dlamini says no one has been arrested.

“Police are investigating a case of attempted hijacking and murder after a 36-year-old man was shot in the early hours of this morning. He was reversing from his residence. He was attacked by three suspects, they shot him, but it seems nothing was taken. At this stage, the suspects are still at large.”

Dlamini has appealed to anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to come forward.
