SASSA And SAPO Agree To Pay Social Grants To Over 17 Million South Africans

Minister in the Presidency and Chairperson of the Inter Ministerial Committee (IMC) Jeff Radebe has announced on Wednesday that a hybrid payment system, involving both the South African Post Office (SAPO) and the social security agency, SASSA.

The breakthrough will assure the distribution of over 17 million social grants, with the two entities now agreeing to work together to pay social grants.

Radebe says an agreement is to be signed off by the end of next week.

“We want to ensure that by next week Friday, all these corporation agreements in the main between SASSA and SAPO will be signed.”

Themba Godi‚ the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts‚ says he welcomes the intervention.

“We are happy of the fact that the impasse has been broken, there is now a clear process with which this is going to be resolved.”

The IMC have developed a ‘dated project plan’ towards the 1 April 2018 when the current contract with CPS expires.
