Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe Removed as WHO Goodwill Ambassador

October 22, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 22-10-2017

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has withdrawn the appointment of Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe as a “goodwill ambassador.”

In a statement issued Sunday WHO director-general Tedros Ghebreyesus says he decided to rescind his appointment of 93-year-old Mugabe after listening to the flood of outrage and concerns voiced by international leaders and health experts.

Ghebreyesus says he revoked Mugabe’s position in the best interests of the World Health Organization.

Ghebreyesus also says he had consulted with the Zimbabwe government about his decision.
