The family of Ahmed Timol is hoping that judgment into the inquest of the late Apartheid struggle stalwart’s death more than four decades ago will bring them closure.
Police claimed Timol jumped to his death from the 10th floor of the 13 storey John Vorster Square 46 years ago.
While the inquest in 1972 found Timol had killed himself, new evidence suggest he was murdered by the security branch.
Timol’s family have also have refused to believe that he committed suicide and asked for the inquest to be reopened.
Judge Billy Mothle is expected to hand down judgment at 10am this morning.
The testimonies of pathologists, cross-examination of former Security Branch officers who last saw Timol and a general analysis of the entire story could see a murder verdict.
The Timol family says that a press briefing is expected to be held 30 minutes after the announcement of the judgment.
