Muslim Man Left Traumatized After Islamophobic Rant

September 20, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 20-09-2017

A 33-year-old man claims he has been left traumatised after he was allegedly racially abused by a white man in Potchefstroom in the North West.

Mohammad Kharbhai says he was returning from Johannesburg to Potchefstroom last week when he decided to stop and read his Maghrib salaah when the incident happened.

“As I was praying my salaah a gentleman started shouting racial and Islamic insults at me. He used words like ‘Rajbansi’, ‘kuli’, swearing Allah, saying he killed Allah, he killed Muhammad and that we must go pray to the stars in a different place.”

Kharbhai says he wanted to retaliate after the man became more aggressive, but backed down.

“I completed my salaah and then was tempted to take the man on, but just jumped in my car and got his number plate.”

Kharbhai says he reported the incident to the Potchefstroom police station but was told they could not assist him and he should rather inform the court who will investigate the incident further.

Radio Islam has contacted the employers of the alleged perpetrator, but the official refused to provide comment or details of the gentlemen allegedly involved in the incident.

Kharbhai says he will be reporting the incident to the Human Rights Commission.
