WhatsApp Tests ‘Delete For Everyone’ Feature

September 16, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 16-09-2017

Have you ever sent an embarrassing WhatsApp message to a wrong person only to regret it later? Well, WhatsApp is getting closer to rolling out its ‘Delete for everyone’ feature, which lets users unsend’ an embarrassing message or image (but ONLY within 5 minutes of it being sent and if the recipient hasn’t opened it first)

WABetaInfo, a London-based Twitter account that tests WhatsApp update early reports The Facebook owned company has finally begun testing the functionality on Android and iOS devices.

“WhatsApp is finally testing the Delete for Everyone feature: The server finally works and it successfully recalls the message.”

Delete for Everyone will reportedly work on all types of WhatsApp messages, including texts, images, videos, GIFs, documents and Status reply.

Users can delete these messages within five minutes of sending them, but if this time window is missed, the message will stay.

Rumours suggest users will not be able to delete any messages that the recipient has opened, even within the five-minute limit.

However, most users won’t have access to the feature and will likely have to wait until the Facebook-owned messenger eventually enables it remotely for everyone.

According to screenshots obtained by WABetaInfo, recalled texts will also disappear from the Notification Center – both on Android and iOS gadgets.

Rumors about the ‘unsend’ feature first began circulating the web when crafty users started noticing signs of this functionality in WhatsApp’s code, speculating the company could’ve enabled it a few months back in June.

‘Delete for everyone’ has already appeared in an August beta version of the app for Windows Phone, which is a pretty strong indication it could soon make its way to Android and iOS. Unfortunately, there’s not yet a clear timeline when this might happen.

WhatsApp has not officially confirmed the new feature, and is yet to respond.
