The family of a Pretoria businessman is pleading with his captors to take him to hospital for his scheduled open heard surgery before it’s too late.
There is still no sign of 76-year-old Omar Carrim who went missing last week after leaving his shop Home Hyper City in the city centre.
A massive search was launched and police later found his burnt-out Mercedes at the Schurwerg Mountains in Pretoria West.
Carrim’s son Abdullah says the family waited in hope but his father was not taken to the Zuid-Afrikaans Hospital by his captors for the surgery.
“Inside everyone’s heart there is kindness, and you will receive it, and that is what we are doing right now, seeking kindness from his captors so that he can survive.”
Abdullah says he can confirm he received two calls from his father.
“The first short call to me and instructions from our Tata was ‘get my heart medicine’. I replied, I am surprised you are alive without your medicine. How can I get the medicine to you? The call was abruptly disconnected.”
He says the second call was more intense.
“His first words, in a distressed and severely weakened voice were: ‘I am dying, I can’t make it, pray for me.'”
Police are continuing investigating a case of kidnapping as well as hijacking.
